Certified Specialist Oracle VM
Certified Specialist Oracle VM
Domain 1: Oracle VM Architecture & Deployment (20%)
This domain evaluates the foundational understanding of the Oracle VM ecosystem and the ability to install and initially configure its core components.
- 1.1 Understand Oracle VM Architecture: Differentiate between the roles of Oracle VM Manager (OVMM), Oracle VM Server (OVS) for x86, and Oracle VM Agent.
- 1.2 Deploy Oracle VM Server: Execute the installation of Oracle VM Server, configure initial management network settings, and secure access.
- 1.3 Deploy and Configure Oracle VM Manager: Install OVMM, discover Oracle VM Servers, and perform initial UI/CLI configuration and user management.
Domain 2: Storage & Network Configuration (25%)
Focuses on the critical infrastructure dependencies required for virtualization, including connecting the hypervisors to enterprise storage and configuring network traffic segregation.
- 2.1 Configure Virtual Networking: Design and implement logical networks, VLANs, and bonded interfaces (NIC bonding) to segregate management, storage, and virtual machine traffic.
- 2.2 Manage Storage Resources: Discover and register external storage arrays (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS), and manage multipathing (MPIO) for high availability.
- 2.3 Administer Storage Repositories: Create, present, and manage Oracle VM Storage Repositories for housing virtual machine resources, templates, and ISO images.
Domain 3: Server Pools & Virtual Machine Management (30%)
This is the core operational domain, measuring the candidate's ability to provision, manage, and scale virtual workloads within clustered environments.
- 3.1 Design and Manage Server Pools: Create clustered Server Pools, configure High Availability (HA), and manage Distributed Resource Scheduling (DRS) and Distributed Power Management (DPM) policies.
- 3.2 Provision Virtual Machines: Create VMs using installation media (ISOs), deploy VMs from assemblies and templates, and manage virtual hardware allocation (vCPU, vRAM, vNICs).
- 3.3 Manage Virtual Machine Lifecycles: Perform cloning, snapshots, live migration (moving running VMs between physical hosts), and physical-to-virtual (P2V) or virtual-to-virtual (V2V) conversions.
Domain 4: Administration, Maintenance & Troubleshooting (25%)
Evaluates the skills required to keep the Oracle VM environment healthy, perform upgrades, and resolve operational issues.
- 4.1 Perform Upgrades and Patching: Execute rolling upgrades for Oracle VM Servers within a Server Pool and upgrade the Oracle VM Manager without disrupting running workloads.
- 4.2 Monitor Performance and Capacity: Utilize OVMM and command-line tools to monitor hypervisor and VM performance metrics, identifying CPU, memory, or I/O bottlenecks.
- 4.3 Troubleshoot and Recover Resources: Analyze Oracle VM logs, troubleshoot network/storage connectivity failures, and execute backup and restoration procedures for the Oracle VM Manager MySQL database.
